Dr. Ariel Rad is a full time Assistant Professor in the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Dr. Rad graduated magna cum laude from Princeton University where he was the captain of its NCAA Division I swim team and majored in mechanical engineering. Prior to receiving his M.D. from Duke University School of Medicine in 2000, he was named a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Research Scholar and studied cancer immunology and "cancer vaccines" at the National Institutes of Health. He was awarded a grant to continue his research in England, and through this work he earned a Ph.D. in Immunology at University College London in 2003. Dr. Rad then moved to Baltimore to pursue his internship, residency, and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery fellowship at Johns Hopkins.

Dr. Rad specializes in state-of-the-art microvascular perforator flap breast reconstructions, such as the DIEP (deep inferior epigastric artery perforator flap), the SIEA (superficial inferior epigastric artery flap), the TUG (transverse upper gracilis flap), and the SGAP (superior gluteal artery perforator flap). In addition to reconstructive surgery and microsurgery, Dr. Rad has a dedicated focus on cosmetic surgery, including breast lifts, reductions, and augmentations. He also participates in medical missions that deliver much-needed surgical care to children with cleft lips and palates, burn scars, and birth deformities in underserved areas of developing countries.

Dr. Rad has made significant contributions to advance the field of plastic surgery with research that has been published in major peer-reviewed scientific journals and presented at national meetings. At the 2009 American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery meeting, he received a national award for his work on perforator flaps.

Also highly accomplished outside the operating room, Dr. Rad was ranked 33rd in the world in professional Latin dance in 2002. He has enjoyed performing and training dancers throughout the world in competitive ballroom and Latin dance, and his skills were featured on ABC's hit television documentary "Hopkins." Dr. Jaime Flores is a full time Assistant Professor in the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and is an American Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. His practice is dedicated to reconstruction of the breast, the head and neck, as well as cosmetic surgery.

Dr. Flores' main focus is on reconstructive breast to include DIEP, SGAP, LSGAP, tissue expander, implants, reduction and lifts. Dr. Flores specializes in microvascular surgery, specifically DIEP, SGAP and other perforator flap techniques. He has spent the last several years at Johns Hopkins Hospital teaching young resident's state of the art breast reconstruction.

He has refined the SGAP procedure at Hopkins and is now one of a few surgeons in the world offering bilateral SGAP surgery for breast reconstruction. In the last 2 years, he has developed an alternative flap that is only offered at Johns Hopkins. The LSGAP or "Cushion flap" harvests tissue from the love handle area without any muscle dissection or distortion to the gluteal region. All these microvascular flaps give patients additional options for a natural aesthetic result.

Dr. Flores was a surgical director for a medical missionary group before he founded, along with his colleagues, The Healing Hands Foundation (THHF). THHF is a non-profit foundation dedicated to delivering surgical care to underprivileged people all over the world. Every year he performs 3-4 missions which include surgery for cleft lips, palates, burn scars, and other congenital deformities. He has been involved since his college years and continues to devote his life and his career to international health.

His vision is to perform surgery around the globe, and to provide teaching seminars to professionals who can then perform surgery in their own local cities. He encourages students, from high school to professional levels, to volunteer. He believes this will enrich their lives and foster their future careers.

Dr. Flores grew up several blocks from Johns Hopkins and received a Bachelor of Sciences in Kinesiology while playing football for the Maryland Terrapins from 1989-1993. He graduated from the University of Maryland Medical School and completed a residency in both Otolaryngology as well as Plastic & Reconstructive surgery at Johns Hopkins.

Baltimore Co. Teacher Shares Her Battle With Breast Cancer

Dr. Gedge Rosson, M.D. graduated from New York Medical College in 1998 after receiving his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley. He did his internship, general surgery, and plastic surgery residency training at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Rosson then completed a Peripheral Nerve Surgery Fellowship at the Dellon Institute for Peripheral Nerve Surgery in Baltimore, Maryland.

He is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and his academic appointments include Assistant Professor, Plastic Surgery at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland as well.

He specializes in microvascular perforator flap breast reconstructions, such as the DIEP (deep inferior epigastric artery perforator flap), the SIEA (superficial inferior epigastric artery flap), and the SGAP (superior gluteal artery perforator flap). He was the first surgeon in the United States to widely implement pre-operative mapping of the abdominal perforators using 64-slice multi-detector 3D CT scan angiograms, and he is one of the first to now regularly connect nerves to create sensate breast reconstructions.

Dr. Rosson currently has hospital privileges at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, the R Adams Cowley Shock-Trauma Center, and Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. His research has been published in major peer-reviewed scientific journals and presented at both national and international meetings.

Dr. Rosson serves as the Director of Breast Plastic Surgery at Hopkins.

Michele Manahan, M.D, is originally from Atlanta, Georgia. She graduated summa cum laude from Harvard University, and attended medical school at Johns Hopkins where she was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honors society. She completed her residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Johns Hopkins as well.

During her plastic surgery training, Dr. Manahan served as a resident representative to the Board of Directors for the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the Plastic Surgery Educational Foundation. As a representative, she helped to make improvements in resident education and training in Plastic Surgery. In addition, she served as the resident representative to the Maryland House of Delegates and President of the Resident and Fellows Section in Med Chi, the Maryland State Medical Association. She has participated in multiple community projects with the Junior League of Baltimore, where she received the President's Volunteer Service Award in 2006. She currently is an active member of the Association of Women Surgeons, as well as the American Medical Association, Johns Hopkins Medical and Surgical Association, and the Johns Hopkins Women's Medical Alumnae Association.

Dr. Manahan has written multiple papers on her work in plastic surgery which have been published in national peer-reviewed journals and book chapters. She performs all aspects of plastic and reconstructive surgery with a special focus on breast reconstruction and aesthetics. She specializes in microvascular surgery, specifically DIEP flap surgery.
