2007 Ride for Life

The Potomac Valley Dressage Association (PVDA) held its Fourth Annual Ride for Life Show, a licensed dressage horse show for the benefit of the Johns Hopkins Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Center (JHBCC) on June 30 and July 1, 2007 at the Prince George's Equestrian Center in Upper Marlborough, MD. This year's PVDA Ride for Life raised $45,000 for the JHBCC, a 50% increase from 2006. More than 60% of that amount came from rider pledges. Additional funds were raised during the Saturday evening Dancing Horse Challenge. Two new features that helped raise additional funds were the general public $10 donation for admission to the Dancing Horse Challenge and the fun "Bribe the Judge". The audience "bribed" the judge with donations to JHBCC to help their favorite rider win. Kudos to all the competitors who raised pledges, generous donors, and great sponsors who helped make this effort so successful! The PVDA is the second oldest dressage club in the United States. Founded in 1964 in Gaithersburg, MD, PVDA promotes the art and sport of dressage by providing leadership, education, scholarships and competitions for its 1200+ members.

Meet 2007's High Pledge Winners!

Jennifer Tingley raises $4416 in donations
Jennifer, PVDA member, was motivated by family and friends who are fighting cancer and who are survivors. This was Jennifer & her horse's first licensed show. Jennifer rode Training Level 1 & 2 and by Sunday had improved so much she won her class. Jennifer also volunteered many hours by labeling tests for the show & pressure washing the dressage rings. Top in both Fundraising & Riding! Congratulations!

Carolyn Del Grosso, Professional Rider raises $4,848
Carolyn collected pledges for two of the horses she rode. She asked her students to help support the cause. One student was able to use the corporate matching program at work that supported charities that employees contributed to during year. Carolyn raised even more funds for JHBCC by riding in the evening performance. Carolyn is a long-time PVDA member and current Secretary. She is the 2008 PVDA Ride for Life Co-Chairperson.
