The multidisciplinary design of the Johns Hopkins Avon Foundation Breast Center provides patients access to a team of care givers who collaborate in their consultation and care. For the patient, this integrated approach means fewer office visits, centralized records, and reduced cost. More importantly, this collaborative effort among the nation's top breast cancer experts ensures that breast cancer patients who come to Johns Hopkins have the winning edge against this disease.

The staff of the Johns Hopkins Avon Foundation Breast Center wants you to know that every effort will be made to help you through your diagnostic and treatment phase of this disease.

One on one support for women undergoing breast cancer treatment at Johns Hopkins:

A unique program offered to patients undergoing breast cancer treatment is one on one support from oncology nurses who are breast cancer survivors as well as a team of survivor volunteers who have completed their treatment. Women are given the opportunity to be "matched" to a survivor volunteer based on her age at diagnosis, stage of disease and anticipated treatment plan. the program is called "Survivors Helping Survivors." This individual stays in touch with the patient throughout her treatment experience. We also have survivor volunters and nurse survivors who are with patients during breast biopsies in Breast Imaging as well as with them in preop and recovery room on their day of surgery.

From past experience myself as well as having talked with many breast cancer patients, there are some key questions that arise related to health insurance coverage that might be helpful for you to know.

The Johns Hopkins Avon Foundation Breast Center, located at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institution in Baltimore, Maryland, is committed to providing the very best medical care to women with breast cancer. As a mechanism to measure the quality of care and efficiency in the delivery of that care that we presently provide, the Breast Center internally does satisfaction surveys with its patients. We are interested in expanding our knowledge base and learning more about how access to care and diagnostic work-up and treatment of breast cancer can be further improved. In order to achieve this important goal we invite you to respond to the following survey questions about your most recent experience with breast cancer treatment no matter where you received your care.
