Questions about Lumpectomy with Sentinel Node Biopsy.
|Asked||Publicly Submitted Question|
|02/25/2004||I had a lumpectomy with sentinel node. Immediately after surgery the doctor told my family there were clear margins on the 1cm tumor and no node involvement. We later were told there was no pahtology done during surgery and that one node showed positive. They are now suggesting auxillary node surgery. Since I am told I will have to have chemo anyway, why go through the addtional surgery? I have already been through the core biopsy and lumpectomy, I feel they are prolonging the diagnosis with too many procedures.|

|02/27/2004||Checking additional nodes (level one node dissection) is helpful for staging and this determines the type and amount and frequency of chemo-- the more nodes involved the more treatment warranted.|
