|10/30/2005||I have been receiving pamidronate for metastatic breast cancer to the bone (sternum)for 5 yrs. I have in the last few months been experiencing back pain about a week after treatment. I am also experiencing nausea about two weeks after treatment, so far lasting five days. I receive the infusion in a two hour period. Do you think it would be helpful to reduce the side effects if I lengthened the infusion to 4 hrs.?|

|10/30/2005||it may not make a difference. ask your doctor also if having it infused over a longer period is as effective as a 2 hour infusion. some drugs must be given in a specific period of time to work. ask about stronger anti-emetics that are in the 5-HT3 antiemetic category.|

Ask an Expert is a free service operated by health care professionals at the Johns Hopkins Avon Foundation Breast Center. Due to the volume of questions and their complexity, there are times when medical oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists or oncology nurses are consulted for their input.
