| 12/15/2005 | My mother was recently diagnosed with breast cancer in the spine, sternum, and she also has small (1 mm) spots on her liver. She is starting chemo tomorrow. Is her prognosis worsened by the fact that she has cancer spots on the liver or can chemo get rid of them? Is she a candidate for laser on the liver? How much would it cost for someone from Newfoundland, Canada to go to the JHBC for a consultation? | ||

| 12/15/2005 | Since she has multiple sites of metastasis she wouldn't be a candidate for the laser ablation unfortunately. having multiple organs involved for mets is more worrisome than one site. the chemo is designed to destroy the cancer cells no matter where they are however. | ||
Please note: This service is not intended to provide primary medical advice concerning specific medical care or treatment. Ask an Expert is a free service operated by health care professionals at the Johns Hopkins Avon Foundation Breast Center. Due to the volume of questions and their complexity, there are times when medical oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists or oncology nurses are consulted for their input. These individuals volunteer their time for this service and will respond as soon as they are able. Please do not post or send the same question to us in multiple locations or categories.
