| 11/17/2006 | I had a 3.9 cm. tumor at lumpectomy with involved margins. After a mastectomy, it was discerned that there was an additional 3-4 cm. area of residual tumor found microscopically. Would my tumor size then be re-estimated? If so, what size tumor would you say I had? | ||

| 11/20/2006 | well, its simple math. if they found 3cm more of invasive tumor at time of lumpectomy then they add the 3.9cm to it and you can see it is a big number... and it would be stage 3 disease. be sure the disease found though ws INVASIVE disease and not just dcis. | ||
Please note: This service is not intended to provide primary medical advice concerning specific medical care or treatment. Ask an Expert is a free service operated by health care professionals at the Johns Hopkins Avon Foundation Breast Center. Due to the volume of questions and their complexity, there are times when medical oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists or oncology nurses are consulted for their input. These individuals volunteer their time for this service and will respond as soon as they are able. Please do not post or send the same question to us in multiple locations or categories.
