2/19/2008Hello. I had a Modified Radical Mastectomy in left breast in Nov. 06. 2 out of 36 lymph nodes were positive. Had DD AC/Taxol Jan-April 2007. Then had 33 Radiation sessions in June and July 2007. Now I am on Tamoxifen. I am left-handed and my left arm is very tight and gets sore easy (especially if I write for a long time or carry too much). I rest my arm and do arm stretches. Is this coming mainly from radiation? I'm open to suggestions for relief. I have not had reconstruction. Thank-you. You are an angel.

2/19/2008could be some tightness of skin and tissue associated with radiation effects. consider seeing a plastic surgeon to see if some release of tissue would aid in this and if you want to now consider reconstruction as a bonus.

Ask an Expert is a free service operated by health care professionals at the Johns Hopkins Avon Foundation Breast Center. Due to the volume of questions and their complexity, there are times when medical oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists or oncology nurses are consulted for their input. These individuals volunteer their time for this service and will respond as soon as they are able. Please do not post or send the same question to us in multiple locations or categories.
