11/1/2008I am 44 and had sterotactic biopsy and result is core fragment of breast tissue showing a focus of mucinous carcinoma, I then had lumpectomy three weeks ago and result is benign breast tissue with associated, apocrine metaplasia, microcysts, duct ectasia and sclerosing adenosis, focal necrotic tissue is present. microcalcifications are present. no tumor is identified in this entirely submmitted specimen. what is this mean? I don't have cancer in the first place or I have a clear margin?. my breast surgeon said I don't need radiation . I am seeing the oncologist this coming tuesday. I am so confused. what is all this mean? thank you

11/2/2008consider getting your pathology slides re-reviewed elsewhere for accuracy. these are odd findings... you want a breast pathologist looking at them. send them to hopkins (call 443-287-2778 for instructions) or Vanerbilt.

Please note: This service is not intended to provide primary medical advice concerning specific medical care or treatment. Ask an Expert is a free service operated by health care professionals at the Johns Hopkins Avon Foundation Breast Center. Due to the volume of questions and their complexity, there are times when medical oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists or oncology nurses are consulted for their input. These individuals volunteer their time for this service and will respond as soon as they are able. Please do not post or send the same question to us in multiple locations or categories.
