4/22/2010I saw a general surgeon and she said she believes ductograms are not helpful and she refused to order one. She said the radiologist who read my mamm "has never read a normal mammogram in her life". Thus, I am having trouble trusting feeling this surgeon. She recommended a unilateral mamm in one year and no further diagnostics. The digital mamm impression was: "There is a small nodular density laterally and superior in the left breast, could correspond to the patient's fibroglandular tissue. U/S exam is recommended for further eval." My U/S came back normal. Should I ask for a referral to another specialist? The discharge continues spontaneously but is less often and less of it when it does occur but was mildly bloody once. Here is my previous post and your response:For three wks I’ve had clear discharge from my left breast…no pain, no lumps detected by me or my GP last week. Been mildly swollen though as bra isn't fitting well. Had a mammo right after GP appt. Radiologist said she wants to “rule out” fibroglandular tissue via an ultrasound. GP advises to do the US and then see the surgeon if discharge continues after US. Radiologist said do US and then maintenance follow up if fibroglandular is confirmed even if discharge continues. What’s advised as I don’t want to over or under-react? I have no hx of cancer, just fibrocystic breasts but that dramatically improved after my hysterectomy at 32. I have not been on any HRT except for only a few months post hysterectomy. I have a maternal aunt who died from BC and four others on my mom’s side who have passed from BC. Thanks so much for this service, blessings. Replied JHU's Breast Center Reply 3/28/2010 clear discharge can be concerning. still need a definitive diagnosis. ductogram may provide the answer. L
