| 5/3/2010 | I am 56 and was diagnosed with LCIS after a biopsy and MRI. Do I have to have surgery right away? should I start with hormonal therapy with letrozole first then the surgery ? | ||

| 5/5/2010 | if biopsy was done as core biopsy then a surgical biopsy is needed to ensure that only LCIS, a marker of increased risk, is there and nothing else more worrisome. if surgical biopsy was done and LCIS was the only finding then you are done from a surgical perspective and time to meet with a medical oncologist who specializes in high risk women to determine if hormonal therapy for prevention is advisable for you or not. Please note: This service is not intended to provide primary medical advice concerning specific medical care or treatment. Ask an Expert is a free service operated by health care professionals at the Johns Hopkins Avon Foundation Breast Center. Due to the volume of questions and their complexity, there are times when medical oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists or oncology nurses are consulted for their input. These individuals volunteer their time for this service and will respond as soon as they are able. Please do not post or send the same question to us in multiple locations or categories.
