| 9/27/2010 | Hi - My mother had breat cancer at age 42 - Is it wise for me to take the contraceptive pill aged 32 or does it have no effect of the risk of getting breast cancer?? | ||

| 9/27/2010 | it has minimal effect if taken for just a few years. consider too getting a genetics evaluation for yourself as your mom may have had a breast cancer gene given her young age at diagnosis. if she is still alive ask her to go with you. she would be the person they would test (blood test) and if she is positive then you should consider testing. | ||
Please note: This service is not intended to provide primary medical advice concerning specific medical care or treatment. Ask an Expert is a free service operated by health care professionals at the Johns Hopkins Avon Foundation Breast Center. Due to the volume of questions and their complexity, there are times when medical oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists or oncology nurses are consulted for their input. These individuals volunteer their time for this service and will respond as soon as they are able. Please do not post or send the same question to us in multiple locations or categories.
