2/11/2011My breast surgeon told me that in my case I would ordinarily not need any chemotherapy. However, one of my breast tumors was HER2 positive and I will need herceptin. She said herceptin is not given as a stand-alone drug, but must be given along with chemo. Is this accurate? If so, why? How do they know that herceptin is truly effective if it is always given along with a chemo cocktail? Thanks for any info you can provide.

2/11/2011that is correct. there are not studies done where it was given alone and without such research study knowledge, it can't be administered to a patient in that manner. insurance would not cover it either and it is very very expensive.
