| 2/22/2011 | I am 60 years old. I fell on ice two months ago and pulling my breast muscle. Will the breast muscle pulling interfere mammogram? Does mammogram detect the breast muscle pulling as breast tissue changes? Thank you. | ||

| 2/22/2011 | breasts don't contain muscle per se but there is muscle behind the breast tissue-- pec major and minor muscles. A mammogram, done correctly, does show the muscle behind the breast tissue. It may show a hematoma area there. it technically shouldn't interfere with results with the exception that sometimes breast tissue gets traumatized too. this can appear as a hematoma or even as calcifications. make the technician aware of your recent fall so it is noted at the time the imaging studies are read. | ||

Ask an Expert is a free service operated by health care professionals at the Johns Hopkins Avon Foundation Breast Center.
