5/5/2011My father had prostate cancer, his brother had prostate cancer (both in later years of thier life. His sister and her daughter had breast cancer. Other than that - no other relatives on either side ever had any kind of cancer. Is that considered a family history?
Thanks.

5/5/2011certainly sister and her daughter is significant enough family history to consider family to get genetics evaluation/consultation. Given both men got prostate cancer late in life it would not be considered a risk factor for breast. however when we see men in their 50s diagnosed along with other relatives on the same side of the family diagnosed with breast cancer, that is a flag that genetics may be at work.
