| 5/30/2011 | Most will tell their family after they have seen an oncologist (commonly a surgical oncologist first) and have a specific treatment plan lined up. This way you can tell your family that you have breast cancer and already are preparing to take action against it. then tell them the treatment you are anticipating first. let them know that you will do what it takes to be cancer free it at all possible. if the doctor said it was early diagnosis then tell them that. it's natural for family members to feel alarmed and worried. this is your opportunity to show your family, especially children, that you do well under pressure and are setting an example for them in the future years if they ever have a crisis of this magnitude. (we hope you do well and that it is early stage too. if you want to come our way call 443-287-2778. | ||
Please note: This service is not intended to provide primary medical advice concerning specific medical care or treatment. Ask an Expert is a free service operated by health care professionals at the Johns Hopkins Avon Foundation Breast Center. Due to the volume of questions and their complexity, there are times when medical oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists or oncology nurses are consulted for their input. These individuals volunteer their time for this service and will respond as soon as they are able. Please do not post or send the same question to us in multiple locations or categories.
