| 10/7/2011 | In March I had a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy in the left breast. The sentinel node came back positive. I had 19 rounds of radiation and am on tamoxifen. I have been experiencing pain at the incision and under the armpit. It seems to be worse before and during my period. Is this normal and will it go away with time? Thank you. | ||

| 10/8/2011 | Thank you for turning to the Johns Hopkins Breast Center. See your breast surgical oncologist as well as your radiation oncologist, for evaluation of your pain. Could be related to some swelling, secondary to recent radiation, possibly hormonal changes related to menses, or something else all together. In any case, should be evaluated. Thank you, and hope this helps. | ||
Please note: This service is not intended to provide primary medical advice concerning specific medical care or treatment. Ask an Expert is a free service operated by health care professionals at the Johns Hopkins Avon Foundation Breast Center. Due to the volume of questions and their complexity, there are times when medical oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists or oncology nurses are consulted for their input. These individuals volunteer their time for this service and will respond as soon as they are able. Please do not post or send the same question to us in multiple locations or categories.
