10/31/2011Is it a bad/good idea to have an oopherectomy prior to chemotherapy for estrogen positive breast cancer? Will it make the cells go "dormant"and not responsive to chemo- therefore putting one at greater risk later on ? I want to do Arimedex vs tamoxifen- therefore, i will do an oopherectomy to go into menopause.

10/31/2011Please consult with a breast medical oncologist. You are posting under LCIS, but LCIS is not a cancer. I think you need someone who knows your case to sit down and provide an expert recommendation for next best step. Hope this helps. It's hard in this forum to your doctor, and you need to develop a good relationship with one you can call your own, that is experienced, well trained and you trust.

Please note: This service is not intended to provide primary medical advice concerning specific medical care or treatment. Ask an Expert is a free service operated by health care professionals at the Johns Hopkins Avon Foundation Breast Center. Due to the volume of questions and their complexity, there are times when medical oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists or oncology nurses are consulted for their input. These individuals volunteer their time for this service and will respond as soon as they are able. Please do not post or send the same question to us in multiple locations or categories.
