3/4/2012Hello Lillie:
Thanks for taking my questions and extending your time, energy and knowledge. I'm trying to decide which radiation therapy would be my best choice. Either full/partial radiation vs the radioactive seed therapy. Had 1.8cm lumpectomy and 3 lymph nodes removed. Edges of lump were clear. ER and PR were positive and HER2neu were negative. What type would you select?
Are there any restrictions in activities or limits while one receives either therapies? How long are the seeds in place? How long is the full radiation treatment which is daily for 33 treatments?

3/5/2012Thank you for turning to the Johns Hopkins Breast Center. Radiation therapy is a complex treatment and requires much more time then can be addressed in this forum. Types of radiation depends on many factors, such as pts age, uniqueness of individal cancer, area of country where radiation administered, on or off clinical trial, etc. We would be happy to schedule an appointment with one of our breast radiation oncologists. Please call Sheila @ 443-287-BRST (2887).

Ask an Expert is a free service operated by health care professionals at the Johns Hopkins Avon Foundation Breast Center. Due to the volume of questions and their complexity, there are times when medical oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists or oncology nurses are consulted for their input. These individuals volunteer their time for this service and will respond as soon as they are able. Please do not post or send the same question to us in multiple locations or categories.
