3/5/2012I am 54 year old woman and my last period was about 3 years back. I recently found a lump on my upper right quadrant of my left breast. It is tender to touch and I can move it around. I have taken a biopsy, ultrasound and a diagnostic mammogram. I do not have a history of breast cancer in my family. What are my chances that this would be a benign lesion?

3/5/2012Even though you have undergone imaging with biopsy, if a palpable lesion persists, suggest excisional biopsy.

Please note: This service is not intended to provide primary medical advice concerning specific medical care or treatment. Ask an Expert is a free service operated by health care professionals at the Johns Hopkins Avon Foundation Breast Center. Due to the volume of questions and their complexity, there are times when medical oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists or oncology nurses are consulted for their input. These individuals volunteer their time for this service and will respond as soon as they are able. Please do not post or send the same question to us in multiple locations or categories.
