3/9/2012Hi Lillie,

I have a question regarding Oncotype DX. I have RS of 20. I also got the test for sensitivity for different types of chemo therapy - it showed that my tumor is not chemo sensitive. What does it mean? On one hand Oncotype DX shows that I should get some benefits from chemo therapy, on the other hand the tumor was not sensitive for chemo agents. I see a contradiction here. What would be recommended for women like me?

3/10/2012There are some assays that test for 'sensisitivity' of more common chemotherapy agents on breast cancer tissue, but certainly not all chemo therapy agents. Consult with a breast medical oncologist as to a formal recommendation for your treatment. If we can help, please call Sheila @ 443-287-BRST (2887) for an appointment. Hope this helps and best wishes!.

Please note: This service is not intended to provide primary medical advice concerning specific medical care or treatment. Ask an Expert is a free service operated by health care professionals at the Johns Hopkins Avon Foundation Breast Center. Due to the volume of questions and their complexity, there are times when medical oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists or oncology nurses are consulted for their input. These individuals volunteer their time for this service and will respond as soon as they are able. Please do not post or send the same question to us in multiple locations or categories.
