4/10/2012Hello,

Could you list your plastic surgeons and their number of DIEP Flap procedures post training?
I would like to get an understanding of their experience. Also is this procedure performed with two surgeons simultaneously?

Thank you for your time and help,

4/10/2012We have 4 plastic surgeons who specialize in breast reconstruction and all are expert at microvascular flaps, including DIEP flap. Some of our reconstructions are done by two plastic surgeons at once when doing bilateral flaps however these are more commonly bilateral S-GAPS.

Drs.Manahan,Rad,Rosson and Sacks are our four expert surgeons who specialize in this type of procedure. i don't think a day goes by monday through friday that we don't have at least one patient having this type of operation with us. ANY of these four surgeons can operate on me anytime. (actually, some of them did! I've had bilateral diep flap done at Hopkins.) Post training all of these surgeons have done hundreds now. literally hundreds. You are welcome to come for consultation and learn from the plastic surgeon you choose to meet with what the specific volumes are. Our complication rates (which is a more important question) is very low. All patients get core strengthening exercises to prepare for the surgery which speeds up the recovery time. (i returned to work at 4 weeks and work > 60 hours a week). All patients also get a special CAT scan of the abdomen to preselect the perforators to be used. This saves time in the OR and helps ensure a smooth and uneventful post op recovery. call 443-287-2778 for an appt. L

Ask an Expert is a free service operated by health care professionals at the Johns Hopkins Avon Foundation Breast Center. Due to the volume of questions and their complexity, there are times when medical oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists or oncology nurses are consulted for their input.
