4/10/2012Originally diagnosed with dcis, multi-centric but after surgery, pathology showed 2 positive sentinel nodes, one with .7cm and one .2cm. Small focus idc discovered mixed in with large area of dcis, idc .3cm, ER-/PR-,, HER2 3 +. Plan is for chemotherapy plus herceptin for 1 year, radiation after chemo. I have read that chemo plus herceptin not always recommended with small focus of idc. Is this possibly due to positive lymph node status?

4/11/2012the nodal status is driving this and needs to. also, having a tiny tumor manage to wiggle its way to lymph nodes means it is what is referred to as a "bad player". its prognostic features imply the same-- ER/PR neg and HER2 positive. darn it all. so being aggressive with chemo and herceptin makes perfect sense. be well dear.

Ask an Expert is a free service operated by health care professionals at the Johns Hopkins Avon Foundation Breast Center. Due to the volume of questions and their complexity, there are times when medical oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists or oncology nurses are consulted for their input. These individuals volunteer their time for this service and will respond as soon as they are able. Please do not post or send the same question to us in multiple locations or categories.
