4/29/2012I recently had my second biopsy in the left breast. The first was stereotaxis, the second was surgical under ultrasound. The doc kept saying "make sure they check the right", at that time it wasn't possible due to other health issues. I had my mammogram on Friday (diagnostic) and it shows a measurable sharply circumcised benign-appearing mass in the upper outer quadrant. Also calcium in the inferior right breast associated an asymmetric density. With the history of my mom having breast cancer, shouldn't the right have a biopsy?

4/29/2012not necessarily. first ensure that the radiologist is a breast imaging radiologist. also be sure that your family history is known. based solely on what was typed from the report the radiologist feels this is a benign mass, as most masses are in breast tissue. second opinion reading is always a consideration.

Please note: This service is not intended to provide primary medical advice concerning specific medical care or treatment. Ask an Expert is a free service operated by health care professionals at the Johns Hopkins Avon Foundation Breast Center. Due to the volume of questions and their complexity, there are times when medical oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists or oncology nurses are consulted for their input. These individuals volunteer their time for this service and will respond as soon as they are able. Please do not post or send the same question to us in multiple locations or categories.
