| 5/10/2012 | I had a bilateral mastectomy about 6 weeks ago. My Lt side incision is still not headless and the right side I had 300cc seroma aspirated yesterday. Could I have an allergy to the expander? | ||

| 5/10/2012 | allergic reactions present as redness, swelling (not seroma swelling though)and are incredibly rare. however some women's bodies don't like foreign objects in them. talk with your plastic surgeon regarding what his/her thoughts are then you can decide if you want to pursue a different form of reconstruction-- like DIEP flap or S-GAP that doesn't contain any foreign objects and doesn't take any muscle either. | ||
Please note: This service is not intended to provide primary medical advice concerning specific medical care or treatment. Ask an Expert is a free service operated by health care professionals at the Johns Hopkins Avon Foundation Breast Center. Due to the volume of questions and their complexity, there are times when medical oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists or oncology nurses are consulted for their input. These individuals volunteer their time for this service and will respond as soon as they are able. Please do not post or send the same question to us in multiple locations or categories.
