| 5/14/2012 | I had a bilateral masectomy over a year ago, followed by chemo.I'm taking the drug tamoxifen and will be for the next four years. Is coughing a side effect of this? I cough all the time especially at night and when I eat. I also always am clearing my throat. I tried some other drugs besides tamoxifen but they had other side effects like really bad joint pain but I'm tired of coughing all the time. Has anyone else had this same problem and does it ever go away? I'm 47 years old. | ||

| 5/14/2012 | coughing is not a known side effect of hormonal therapies. so its important to make your medical oncologist aware as he/she may need to do some other diagnostic tests to determine the cause. Important to get this checked out. | ||
Please note: This service is not intended to provide primary medical advice concerning specific medical care or treatment. Ask an Expert is a free service operated by health care professionals at the Johns Hopkins Avon Foundation Breast Center. Due to the volume of questions and their complexity, there are times when medical oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists or oncology nurses are consulted for their input. These individuals volunteer their time for this service and will respond as soon as they are able. Please do not post or send the same question to us in multiple locations or categories.
