| 6/11/2012 | I was just diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma Grade 1, Tumor 3cm, Receptors: Estrogen +, Progesterone +. HER 2 - The surgeon is recommending partial mastectomy with the 5 day targeted radiation therapy or the 6 weeks whole breast radiation treatments depending on the final lab results from the surgery. She also mentioned the tablets after for 5 years. Do you agree with the plan? Any suggestions? Thank you........ so much. Maria Mesa | ||

| 6/12/2012 | Thank you for turning to the Johns Hopkins Breast Center. Please consult with both a breast medical and radiation oncologist to discuss your particular case in depth. Here @ JH we do not perform the 5 day targeted radiation therapy (accelerated partial breast irradiation-while promising these methods still under investigation.) After your lumpectomy, talk with your medical oncologist as well about the oncotype DX. This is a 21 gene assay that evaluates your individual breast cancer tumor and provides a score as to the possible benefit of receivng chemotherapy. Hope this helps and best wishes! | ||

Ask an Expert is a free service operated by health care professionals at the Johns Hopkins Avon Foundation Breast Center.
