6/15/2012I am due for a breast aspiration with the needle in a few weeks. I also have breast implants and quite worried about rupture. Also where do I find information on liabilty of who would be responsible if the implant did rupture. I would think the hospital would be if they ruptured it with the needle? And / or how many rupture during mammograms at your hospital?

6/15/2012You would need to discuss your concerns in detail with the physician who is going to perform the needel aspiration. Most implants are placed behind the muscle, which makes 'rupture' of the implant next to impossible. Consult with the breast plastic reconstructive surgeon who placed your implants originally.

Ask an Expert is a free service operated by health care professionals at the Johns Hopkins Avon Foundation Breast Center. Due to the volume of questions and their complexity, there are times when medical oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists or oncology nurses are consulted for their input. These individuals volunteer their time for this service and will respond as soon as they are able. Please do not post or send the same question to us in multiple locations or categories.
