3/13/2014Breast cancer patients are sometimes advised to avoid milk. As a breast cancer survivor I drink skim milk. Is this OK or should I be drinking organic milk or almond milk? Thanks!

3/14/2014We need further research to find out more about the links between dairy products and cancer risk. A large European study called EPIC (The European Prospective Investigation of Cancer) is currently looking at the relationship between diet, lifestyle and cancer.

At the moment, doctors and nutritionists recommend a healthy, well balanced diet. Calcium should be part of that diet, and milk is an important source of calcium. Also, could switch to low fat milk or skim milk. A healthy diet should also be high in fiber and include at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables each day. It is best to avoid smoking and to limit your alcohol intake. Exercise is important as well as practicing stress relief measures possiblt like yoga, tai chi, meditation, etc.

Best wishes
