Johns Hopkins Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

Many patients, especially those newly diagnosed with breast cancer, come to Johns Hopkins for consultation and subsequent surgical care. After their surgery, we are able to assist them with arranging for adjuvant therapy (chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy) closer to home when such treatment is needed. If traveling some distance to us for consultation or for breast cancer surgery, the Radisson Plaza Lord Baltimore Hotel can accommodate you. Room rates are discounted for Hopkins patients to under $100 per night and free transportation to and from the hospital to the hotel is also provided by the Radisson for our patients. For additional information send an email to Lillie Shockney at shockli@jhmi.edu . The Radisson Plaza Lord Baltimore Hotel is a proud sponsor of the Johns Hopkins Breast Cancer Survivor Volunteer Team and Patient Education Fund.

Johns Hopkins International Patient Services coordinates all aspects of international patients' medical care, paying special attention to their personal, cultural and travel-related needs. The professional staff helps arrange consultations, second opinions or treatment, and coordinates appointments in a timely manner. Medical record review, language interpretation, cost estimates and assistance with travel arrangements are also offered. For help, call +01-410-955-8032 from outside the United States, or visit Johns Hopkins International.

Prior to your first appointment, you or your doctor should send your medical records, test results and slides. We will assist you in obtaining this information. If you have not already seen a doctor, you will not need to send us anything. At the time of the initial call, we will begin the registration process by collecting your address, insurance coverage and other information. Plan to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your appointment to complete registration.

We encourage you to bring a family member or friend to share in the consultation. Most patients find that having a support person is helpful, especially when you face important decisions about your health. You are welcome to bring a tape recorder to audio record your consultation.

Your appointment will take approximately 30 minutes to an hour and a half. The scheduling coordinator will tell you how long the appointment is likely to take.

If you have other questions or concerns, members of the Breast Center team can provide additional information. Please call us if you need help preparing for your visit.

List of Insurance Companies (Managed Care Organizations) We Contract With

Below is a list of managed care organizations that contract with Johns Hopkins. Some of these companies carve our radiology services (such as mammograms) and laboratory services, so it is advisable to call your benefits office of your insurance company to see what they do and do not cover. This list is of course constantly changing too, so it is smart to call your insurer and ask if they contract with Johns Hopkins and tell them the type of services you are seeking to receive from us. The list below is the most current available. For additional information you may also call the Johns Hopkins Office of Managed Care at 410-614-3227.
